Tips for Kempton Races

As well as the Kempton All-Weather track, the venue is better known for it’s National Hunt racing. It hosts some brilliant races throughout the jumps season and racing has taken place there since July 1878. Sadly the venue is set to be closed by 2021 due to the Jockey Club selling the land.

Course: It’s a very flat, right-handed circuit of a mile and five furlongs. A fair course, it’s considered quite speedy and we want our tips to have more of an emphasis on pace than stamina.

Feature Races: The most prestigious race held at Kempton Park is the King George VI Chase which is a Grade 1 over a distance of 3 miles on Boxing Day. It was famously won an astonishing five times by the great Kauto Star and it’s a race often taken in by future Gold Cup heroes, it’s roll of honour is exceptional. Other big races at Kempton’s Christmas Festival which we have tips for include:

26th December

  • Kauto Star Novices’ Chase (Grade 1)
  • Christmas Hurdle (Grade 1)

27th December

  • Wayward Lad Novices’ Chase (Grade 2)
  • Desert Orchid Chase (Grade 2)
