Aidan O’Brien won seven trials last week and this is the Derby/Oaks double to back

Last week was a particularly good one for the legendary trainer Aidan O’Brien. Seven recognised Derby and Oaks trials took place in Britain and Ireland, and he won all of them. Liam Bramall has picked out two of O’Brien’s trial winners that could follow up in the Derby and Oaks at Epsom next month. They combine to form a tasty 64/1 double and both horses have serious chances of Classic success. Check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

Epsom Oaks

Giselle (12/1, betfred) has always been highly regarded by connections and as such she was probably a little disappointing last season. It was a very different story at Lingfield on Saturday though as she made a mockery of her three rivals, easily pulling nine lengths clear of the runner-up.

The daughter of Frankel was plenty keen enough in the early stages but clearly has a big engine, as that appeared to make little difference. Hopefully she’ll progress from that, especially as it was her seasonal debut, and if settling better in the Oaks, O’Brien’s filly will surely have every chance.

Epsom Derby

Delacroix (4/1, betfred) left the best impression of O’Brien’s four Derby trial winners, which isn’t much of a surprise. He was a smart juvenile last term and was a nose away from winning a Group 1 over a mile but middle-distances were always going to bring out the best in him.

This son of Dubawi will attempt to follow in the footsteps of Galileo and High Chaparral by winning the same Leopardstown trial as well as the Ballysax Stakes before winning the big one. His dominant display at the weekend suggests he has every chance of running a massive race.
