Gamble alert: Hexham runner backed into 9/2 from 16/1 on Tuesday

It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the betting markets as there’s plenty to be learnt from doing so. Whilst there are never any guarantees, we can get a good sense of the level of confidence behind a horse. Sometimes there is a market mover that warrants special attention and that is the case on Tuesday.

One runner in Hexham‘s opening race is currently 9/2, having been as big as 16/1 on Monday evening. With that in mind, we’re going to take a detailed look at the horse’s chances. You can also check out our free tips page for daily content across British and Irish racing.

5.58 Hexham

Mademewhatiam (9/2, bet365) was a more than respectable fifth over course and distance on stable debut earlier this month and that was his first start for 192 days. Improvement is anticipated with that in mind and the handicapper has dropped him 2lb since so that won’t do his chances any harm.

Still a maiden after nine starts over hurdles, that recent effort was his first since having wind surgery and the procedure appears to have been successful. Annabelle Sowray’s gelding started to make progress before the second last flight but faded not long after, which suggests he was in need of the run.

Max’s Champ heads the market and rightfully so, as he was an easy winner at Uttoxeter last time out. He’s clearly a likely candidate, as is fellow last time out winner Tartan Cookie. Consistent veteran Rumble B also shouldn’t be ruled out, as recent form suggests he runs his race more often than not.
