Road to Cheltenham: Ebor to Cheltenham Festival glory? 20/1 Mares’ Hurdle tip

The whole season is geared towards the Cheltenham Festival so it’s always wise to be looking ahead to the big event in March. This is the third instalment of our Road to Cheltenham series this year and we turn our attentions to the Mares’ Hurdle. Our 20/1 selection managed to win the Ebor on the Flat in the summer and could go on to Cheltenham Festival glory. Mares’ Hurdle

Magical Zoe represents the Henry de Bromhead yard and she was a valiant second in the 2023 Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. It’s a bit of a surprise that she’s only run over an extended 2m4f once as the six-year-old definitely looks like more of a stayer.

She has already scooped a major prize this year, when running out an impressive winner of the Ebor at York in August and earning a £300,000 pay day in the process. Willie Mullins’ Absurde followed a similar route when going on to win the County Hurdle after wining the Ebor and Henry de Bromhead’s mare could follow suit.

This mare clearly has a bit of everything and could have just enough class to be a serious candidate here. Brighterdaysahead will be a tough nut to crack but she failed to win when well fancied at Cheltenham last year and if failing to fire again, Magical Zoe is well set to pick up the pieces.
