‘At 33-1, I’m happy to take a punt on him’ – Owen with two Tuesday outsiders 🐎 🐎

Although Kempton and Chepstow now drop off the festive radar, we still have Leopardstown flying the graded flag! The Irish venue hosts a card headlined by a pair of Grade 1 contests, the Christmas Hurdle and the Savills Chase. There’s also ITV action in store from Catterick and Leicester, and we’ll have horse racing tips for all four races.

After some Christmas near misses, I’m hoping lady luck can be on my side on Tuesday. There are some very competitive handicaps and I’ve found three horses who can out-run their odds on the day. They’re both priced up at 33-1, and all the analysis is below.

1.10 Leopardstown – Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle

He’s winless since November 2018 over hurdles, but De Names Escapes Me (33-1) has long threatened to win a big prize and today could be the day. Noel Meade has hit a purple patch of late and the booking of Denis O’Regan, who is a master of timing his rides to perfection, could prove to be perfect.

He returned over obstacles at Punchestown in November, where he did extremely well to finish fourth after being badly hampered two-out. He failed to replicate that at Navan last time, but he made plenty of mistakes and that race didn’t set up for him. Off three pounds lower, with the yard in better form, he’s an obvious each-way player.

1.45 Leopardstown – Dornan Engineering Christmas Hurdle

It’s a shot in the dark, given how long he’s been off the track, but Mr Adjudicator (33-1) was promising when last seen and could be the fly in the ointment. Willie Mullins is no stranger to bringing his horses back from long absences to near their peak and having won a Grade 2 over Bapaume at Auteuil when last seen, he clearly has the talent to feature.

He wasn’t disgraced in a Grade 1 over three miles, his only attempt at this trip, at Auteuil, and these conditions will be no problem for him. Leopardstown also suits him well, winning two of his three starts here. He remains unexposed and you shouldn’t be put off by the booking of Jack Foley, who’s a promising young jockey.

Any market support would be handy, but at 33-1, I’m happy to take a punt on him.
